A fine skylark…I recall those words very well. It’s what started my whole LiveJournal spell back in November, right? What brought me back to blogging there in the first place?
And now, I find myself, on a train, bound for Los Angeles, California, watching “Fleetwood Mac: Live In Boston”, listening to the same song in which those “fine skylark” lyrics appear. I doubt they’d call me “Skylark” had it not been for “Rhiannon”, you think?
Unfortunately, there’s no Internet connection on the train–everything is being done through Notepad. It hasn’t quite hit me yet that I’ve left the Sun City, bound for what I’m sure is a new life in California. I’ve already convinced myself that I’m coming back to El Paso just as soon as I can, but who is to say that mindset won’t change once I get to the Bay Area?
I’m very much so in a questioning period right now. This whole college experience, or pre-college life, is very trying for me right now, and brings up loads of questions…some of which, I’m praying, will be satiated soon enough. So, enough questions…here’s what my day was like:
Went to the Post Exchange for one last time. I finally found “Remixed” by Sarah McLachlan, the copy I’d put down looking for a better one for Jacob [but decided, later on, I’d buy it for myself anyway…so now we both have a genuine copy instead of the bootlegged ones I’ve been making]. In addition, I bought “Fleetwood Mac: Live In Boston”, the DVD/CD set I fell in love with last summer after watching their concert on PBS.
I had a lady come up to me [she couldn’t have been much older than 40], asking me if I knew anything about Coldplay. Coincidentally, I heard their new song “Speed Of Sound” on the radio about an hour earlier. She told me she couldn’t find their new album, but was sure it came out today. I explained to her that I was a rep for a lot of artists, and that I’d help her find the Coldplay album. We looked in a few different places before we found the album called “X&Y”. She seemed really happy to find it, and I was so flattered that she came to me asking about it that I bought the same album about five minutes later. I’ve only listened to two songs on it [neither of which being the one I heard on the radio] and have come to determine that it’s an okay album…that may change soon.
You know that saying, “The trains are never on time”? That’s pretty much true. Our train was supposed to depart at five minutes before six in the evening…and we left at fifteen minutes before nine. At this time, it’s approaching ten in the evening, but this is only because we’ve crossed the New Mexico-Arizona border [Arizona doesn’t observe Daylight Savings, so for some months, they’re in Pacific time].
I’m already missing Chris, Jacob, Kara and Emily, as well as many others in El Paso, but like I said, it hasn’t quite hit yet that I’m gone…and I won’t be back for a while. Not like it did last weekend at the community centre anyway. I’m sure the feeling, and the tears, will be revived soon enough.
